Careers in Construction

Foundations Specialist Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL) opened the doors of its Midlands manufacturing headquarters this week when the company hosted groups of students from across the region.
As part of Careers in Construction Week, in conjunction with the Federation of Piling Specialists, the company invited teenage students to spend half a day at the Burton on Trent manufacturing centre.
The visit included demonstrations of a remote controlled piling rig, a concrete pour inside the pre-cast division, a talk from a graduate engineer and a talk from the company’s design manager. The half day concluded with a view of the Institute of Civil Engineers’ video, Engineering Happiness. Students left the Drakelow site with a guide to careers in construction and a goody bag of promotional merchandise.
“This week long initiative was so important to us,” said RBL Managing Director Gary Farnell.
“Many of the young people we met were clearly interested in the vast array of opportunities the construction industry has to offer.”
“If any of them go on to train and work in our industry, in whatever role, the exercise will have been worthwhile and we will have done our job,” he added.
