Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL) is proud to announce its appointment by Ellison Construction to deliver a precast foundation solution for a new modular diagnostic centre at Bridgwater Hospital, Somerset.
The project will see the installation of Driven Precast Concrete Piles, reaching depths of up to 14 metres, and RBeam, RBL’s precast ground beam system. The works are scheduled to be completed over a four-week period.
The decision to utilise RBL’s precast foundation solution was driven by the modular nature of the building and the need for a quick, low-disruption solution. The RBeam system, classified as Category 3 Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), offers a premanufactured, offsite solution that aligns perfectly with the modular construction approach. Its industrialised, lean construction process ensures high-quality, low-carbon components that are delivered just-in-time and installed with minimal site disruption.
This approach was particularly beneficial for the Bridgwater site, which is located on a flood plain. The RBeam system’s ability to sit above ground level provides a practical and resilient solution to the site’s environmental challenges.
To ensure minimal disruption to hospital operations during construction, RBL has implemented a series of proactive measures. These include carefully coordinated deliveries, low-noise installation techniques, and close collaboration with hospital facilities teams to maintain safe access and uninterrupted services to the hospital throughout the works.
