Roger Bullivant Limited (RBL), part of the VINCI Construction Group, is making strong progress on the piling works for Eurovia UK’s new Asphalt Plant and Green Aggregates Processing Facility in Grays, Essex. Delivered in collaboration with fellow VINCI Construction Holding Limited companies, VINCI Building, the project highlights the strength of group-wide expertise and marks a significant step forward in RBL’s growing portfolio of industrial and non-residential developments.
The facility, which includes an ECO Asphalt Plant, Re-Processing Aggregate Facility, aggregate storage bays, hoppers, tanks, and weighbridges, is a key investment in future sustainable infrastructure. RBL was engaged early in the process to design and deliver a technically robust and environmentally conscious foundation solution tailored to the site’s complex ground conditions.
Leveraging its regional knowledge and technical experience, the RBL South Central team proposed and is currently installing 250mm square Driven Precast Concrete Piles, a solution proven effective in similar local environments. These precast piles are manufactured off-site in RBL’s precast manufacturing facility in South Derbyshire, allowing for precise quality control, reduced waste, and lower embodied carbon compared to traditional cast-in-situ methods.
The site’s soft tidal deposits over gravels and chalk required a carefully engineered approach, validated through early pile testing and a bespoke site investigation programme. The piling solution is designed to support varying design actions in compression and accommodating horizontal loading, while accounting for raised site levels and potential negative skin friction.
To meet the project’s tight timeline, driven by scheduled plant delivery, RBL mobilised three 5000-series quiet hammer rigs and ensured uninterrupted supply by stockpiling pile sections on-site.
“This project is a great example of VINCI Construction in the UK’s collaborative strength in action,” said Ben Gough, Regional Operations Manager at RBL. “Collaborating with VINCI Building and Eurovia from the outset has allowed us to deliver an efficient, sustainable piling solution that’s already well underway and on track to meet the client’s programme. It also reflects our commitment to expanding our presence in the industrial sector, an area where we see significant opportunity for growth.”
With piling works progressing at pace, this collaboration between Eurovia, VINCI Building, and RBL exemplifies the power of early engagement, sustainable innovation, and group-wide synergy in delivering complex industrial projects on time and within budget.
