A pre cast concrete roof section is carefully lowered into position on a bespoke bungalow development at Chatham in Kent by operatives from Roger Bullivant Ltd (RBL), the specialist contractor and manufacturer.
Twenty two specially fabricated 'dual skin' reinforced panels, each containing polyurethane foam insulation, were designed by RBL's Concrete Products division and installed on site during December 2007. Individual roof sections span 5.6m, weigh 2.5t and incorporate five conduits that will either hide cables for interior lighting or contain heat transfer pipes.
RBL project manager Paul Emblin said: "Designing a curved, fully insulated concrete roof for this build proved to be a considerable challenge. But the pre cast sections were installed in only two days, helping to significantly reduce time spent on site."
