Prince Charles meets Roger Bullivant Ltd representatives Tuesday, 27th July 2010
His Royal Highness, Prince Charles met two senior staff members from Roger Bullivant Ltd at the Coed Darcy Supply Chains and Crafts Skills event in Llandarcy on Friday 25 June 2010.
The 1,300-acre Coed Darcy scheme is a redevelopment of the former BP oil refinery between Swansea and Neath, creating more than 4,000 homes. The design specification was developed with input from The Prince's Foundation. The Prince will view progress at the site in his role as President of The Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment.
The site will be developed as an urban village, which is hoped to encourage people to live and work in the same community. With just one phase at the completion stage, the development is expected to take 20 years to complete.
Praising the scheme Prince Charles spoke of his delight at the progress made so far.
"I only hope that I am still alive when we see the final results, in due course, in this part of the world."
Charles met with South West Associate Director, Andy Preece and South Wales Area Manager Dave Johnson who represented Roger Bullivant within the exhibition of firms working on the scheme. RBL South Wales office carried out piling works for the first phase. Dave Johnson commented “Prince Charles was very interested in what work we had completed for area one and also asked about our involvement with The Natural House at the BRE which he had design input on.”
The Village is a proposed £1.2 billion development of homes, employment areas and open space, with an integrated land use pattern of residential and employment uses supported by a full range of community facilities.
The village is expected to become a home to some 10,000 people once development is complete.
