A geothermal pipe, designed to draw heat from the ground and provide warmth to a new bespoke bungalow, is fed into a pile reinforcing cage by operatives from Roger Bullivant Ltd (RBL). A total of 46 reinforcing cages complete with heat transfer pipes were then inserted into augured piles, created to a depth of 10m, on the site at Chatham in Kent.
Completed piles - each measuring 300mm in diameter and featuring a 760mm diameter monolithic pile cap - have been designed to support a lightweight house foundation, developed by RBL using galvanised steel, known as SystemFirst. The developer of the new bungalow hopes that his new development will be carbon neutral.
